The Civil War started on April 12, 1861. Slavery was one of the main causes of the Civil War because the North, also known as the Union, and the South, also known as the Confederates had different point of views about slavery. The Union did not want slavery. However, the South wanted slavery. Abraham Lincoln was the President for the Union. Jefferson Davis was the President for the South. There were many different battles that led up to the Civil War. These battles were Fort Sumter, First Battle of Bull Run, Shiloh, Antietam, Gettysburg, and Vicksburg. The battle of Fort Sumter lasted from April 12-14 of 1861. The First Battle of Bull Run took place on July 12, 1861. The battle of Shiloh lasted from April 6-7 of 1862. The battle of Antietam took place on September 17, 1862. The battle at Gettysburg lasted from July 1-3 of 1863. The battle of Vicksburg lasted from May 18 to July 4, 1863.

Ending of the Civil War:
The Civil war ended on April 9,1865 when General Robert E. Lee surrendered to the North. Because the North stopped most of the South’s supply routes, the Confederates barely had anything. The Union controlled all of the railroads so the Confederates had nothing else to do.
